The CW is bringing up the rear as far as the 2017 network upfronts are concerned. The younger-skewing network is following the likes of ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, which have all presented their new wares to advertisers, showing off what new comedies and dramas are coming to broadcast television. This year, the networks have presented a slew of new shows, with ABC and CBS offering a surprising amount of never-before-seen programming to their lineups. As usual, The CW is doing things a little differently, with only four new shows coming to the network this year – two in the fall with Valor and Dynasty , and two as midseason premieres in Black Lightning and Life Senten


Valor certainly looks like something The CW hasn't really attempted before. There are hints of Homeland and Courage Under Fire buried in the very long first look trailer, as the military drama strikes a similar chord in terms of its characters being forced to reconcile with decisions made while in combat overseas. Like Dynasty , there are some questions as to whether or not Valor will connect with the network's younger-skewing audience -- especially since it lacks star power of any kind -- but its central mystery and various dramatic conflicts might be enough to keep viewers enga

There's definitely an immediacy and immersive feel to the Act of Valor footage shown so far, what with the heavy amounts of handheld camerawork, first person POV shots, and the up-close-and-personal structure of the film in general. McCoy and Waugh are highly-experienced stunt coordinators whose skills in that area have clearly served them well with their directorial debut, allowing for some gritty explosive set pieces and terse battle sequences alike. There's no reason a military drama can't be blended with a soapy melodrama, but Valor doesn't seem to have the right formula just yet. Perhaps it will work things out as the series progresses, but then again, perhaps it will mean the network president's dream of having a military drama on his schedule will have to wait a bit lon


There's a twist to the classic tactical shooter experience: players will be able to choose from a set of agents all with their own unique skills and abilities - not unlike League of Legends - that hail from real-world locations and cultures. The abilities will not only change the way of shooting as the most basic principle; they will also provide strategic advantages, as well as tactical support. The game will be based on an attackers vs defenders style, set on a near-future Earth, with unique tactical opportunities enabled by each character's skill


As far as story beats and character development goes: Act of Valor , so far, seems pretty standard. Because of the nature of its narrative, there's a risk the film could feel very video game-like, with serviceable (if unremarkable) dramatic exchanges and character beats largely serving as the glue that connects each new mission undertaken by the Bandito Platoon. That won't be a problem for moviegoers who are just looking for a more accurate, but still stylized portrayal of military ops onscreen; however, those who are hoping for a richer exploration of the average Navy SEAL's mindset may walk away disappoin
